This morning is the Children’s Service. Thank you to all those involved, especially to the Sunday School teachers who have worked so hard to prepare for this service.

Tonight there is a praise service at 6.30pm in the Minor Hall. The guest speaker will be Sandra Moon.

Anyone interested in helping with the Invasion North mission outreach the week of July 14th should attend a meeting Monday 29th May at 6.30pm. For more info contact Richard.

Global Day of Prayer – There will be a prayer walk Monday 29 May at 7:00pm in preparation for the Global Day of Prayer on the following Sunday (4 June). The prayer walk will start on the Woodvale Road near the Ardoyne roundabout and finish at Townsend Street. For those of you involved with Invasion North this summer, this would be a great way to continue to cover the area in prayer.

There is a meeting every Monday at 8pm for all those interested in helping with the Pyramid Rock outreach the week of August 14th. Please see Barbara for more info.

Weekly Prayer Focus:

Although our church finances are not good, the church committee have taken a step of faith to keep the minibus. Pray that the necessary funds will come in to keep the minibus on the road. Also give thanks that we have the minibus for Sundays and for the organisations to use.

Pray also for the youth fellowship and its leaders this weekend as they head to Letterkenney on a residential. Pray that the have a fun, safe time, and that the Holy Spirit moves among them.

Hello! Sandra, the American volunteer here! Many apologies for not keeping this site up to date! I hope to get back on track!

MONDAY... Pray for everyone working within the justice system, particularly for our Home Secretary, judges, barristers, solicitors, police and Crown Prosecution Service. Pray that they will be given wisdom, integrity and a Godly guidance in the judgements they have to make on a daily basis.

TUESDAY... Pray for all those preparing for examinations starting this month, especially those who feel their future depends on exam results. Pray that those who feel under pressure and stress will be given the support, encouragement, love and understanding they need at this time from family and friends.

WEDNESDAY... Continue to pray for our own situation in Northern Ireland. As the Marching Season approaches, pray that the dialogue which has recently taken place between various groups will continue to make progress. Pray too that those people who continue to oppose peace and reconciliation will, by the grace of God, become peace seekers and peacemakers, and work for a secure, just and cooperative solution to our problems.

THURSDAY... Give thanks for successful marriages which have lasted long years and have been blessings to family, friends and the wider community. Pray that they will inspire and encourage younger couples to stay faithfully committed whatever the future holds. Pray too for those soon to be married that they will show patience, kindness, selflessness, understanding and tenderness to each other, especially in times of trial.

FRIDAY... At this time of year many young people are planning and preparing for holiday Bible clubs, beach missions, summer camps and many more activities both at home and overseas. Pray that God will bless all those involved, and pray too for God’s spirit to be evident in each event and in particular, pray for all involved in youth ministry in Crumlin Road, that they will receive God’s wisdom and grace as they serve others.

SATURDAY... At this time of year, all of our organisations, Sunday School, and other groups are looking forward to a well earned break. Give thanks for each person for their love, loyalty and commitment in the service of Jesus Christ in Crumlin Road. Pray that their summer break will be a time of rest and relaxation for them and also for their friends and families. Pray too for God’s protection for all those travelling at home or abroad.

SUNDAY... Continue to pray for those who are ill, especially to those known to us personally and those in our congregation. Pray too for “Margaret” and “Christine” for healing for both suffering different illnesses. Remember their families and carers at this time, and pray that God’s love and strength will support them through this difficult time. Pray for those waiting to undergo surgery and those who suffer pain where there is no cure, pray that God will demonstrate His power and His grace in their situations.

Rachel Harte will be home from July until February. Any organisations who would like to arrange a time for her to speak to them should begin to make arrangements soon.

Midweek will usually be held instead of home groups the first Thursday of each month. Since Jack is away, however, this will begin next month. This Thursday’s home groups will meet at the following locations:

PWA will meet this Tuesday 31st January at 8pm. It will be a member’s night.

Kirk Session has decided to re-establish home Bible study groups. If you would like to take part in a group, please contact Jim Coleman. We would like to get the groups started as soon as possible. If you would like to volunteer to host a group occasionally, please give your name to Jim as well. Hosting a group does not mean you will have to lead the discussion or the group.

If you want to make regular donations towards the repair and maintenance of the church building you can get envelopes from May Cahoon.

Merry Christmas!!

There will be no evening services tonight or the following Sunday. Next week, morning services will begin at the usual time of 11am.

Today’s collection will go towards the World Development Appeal’s project Horizons of Hope. Please give generously as your offering will be used to help those in great need in places such as Malawi, Burundi, the Indian state of Bihar and Israel.

Thank you to Edenbrooke Primary School’s choir who is performing in this morning’s service, and thank you to all those who have come to church today in support of our community building efforts.

After the service, please join us in the hall for tea and coffee and to view the gallery of children’s artwork submitted from the church and the school for the Christmas Card Competition.

Next Sunday will be a community Christmas service. We will be displaying artwork the children from the church and the Edenbrooke Primary School have submitted for the Christmas Card Competition. Edenbrooke’s choir will be performing during the service, and community representatives will be in attendance. After the service, there will be tea and coffee and a chance for you to view the gallery of children’s artwork. This will be an all-age family service where everyone is warmly welcome.

Financial Report December 2005

UNITED APPEAL - £4524 to date. Target is £6262. 2004 total was £4492

RACHEL HARTE - £4055 to date. (2004 total was £4085. Church was committed to £5000 annually for three years, ending in January 2006. Committee has agreed that we will continue to support Rachel.

CHURCH ACCOUNT - Current account is overdrawn by £7129. We have £4524 to hand over to United Appeal which will leave the account overdrawn by £11,653. Allowing for 4 more Sundays this year and some bills to pay, it is estimated that the account could be overdrawn by around £9500 at the end of the year.

WEEKLY OFFERINGS
In 2005 the average weekly offering in the envelopes is £812. Last year it was £868.

If an extra £150 was brought in each week in 2006 the situation could be turned around. This means we need at least an extra £2 a week from each adult.

We need YOU to consider this prayerfully and decide what you can give.

December Prayer Diary

MONDAY: INDONESIA. Three Indonesian Sunday School teachers have been sentenced to three years in prison for allowing Muslim children to attend their Sunday School. Pray for REBEKKA, ETI and RATNA who are separated from their young families: 1) that their appeal will be successful, and 2) that the Indonesian authorities will act to stop Islamic militants from forcing churches to close.

TUESDAY: AIDS. Pray for those affected and suffering from AIDS/HIV. The stark reality is that in the next 60 seconds, five people will die of AIDS. More than 90 percent of people living with AIDS are in developing countries. Pray for wisdom and compassion for all who are working with and are seeking to minister to people living with HIV and AIDS. Pray that the global church will demonstrate practical love and care and thereby witness to the hope that is found in and through Jesus Christ.

WEDNESDAY: Pray for people, especially those with no close family or friends, who may feel left out during this Christmas season and prompt us where appropriate to include those people in our celebrations. Pray too for those who have lost a loved one during the year that God’s love will be expressed to them through the acts of thoughtfulness and concern of others.

THURSDAY: Pray for ourselves, that we may avoid missing the true meaning of Christmas by getting caught up in the commercialisation and materialism which has taken us over time and time again, and which puts thousands of people in debt for things which are net needed and take away from the true joy of Christmas.

FRIDAY: Give thanks for the many charities, organisations and service personnel who will work and devote themselves to the needs of others during the Christmas season. Pray that God will continue to bless them and that through their love, concern and actions, the love of Christ will be shown.

SATURDAY: Remember to pray for all missionaries, in particular those who are single and at this Christmas time, are far from home. Also pray for family members who can’t be with us for various reasons and for those families who are nursing loved ones who are seriously ill. Pray that God’s love will sustain and comfort each in their individual situation at this time.
SUNDAY: Remember to pray for the family circle of George Best at this sad time. Give thanks for his life, talent and humble nature, and for the way in which his death has brought different cultures and religions together.

This morning’s service will be conducted in two parts where we will be moving to the hall for the second half of the service to explore the next step for Church, Community and Change: Learning to Listen. A service of Divine Healing will be held next Sunday evening at 6.30pm. This is not just for those who would like prayer for healing as you can come for prayer on behalf of a family member or friend.

As Christians, we have a responsibility to protect the environment because it is God’s creation. On Friday 11 November, two proposed bills—the Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Bill and Management of Energy in Buildings Bill—go to vote. October Prayer Diary

MONDAY: Please pray for those in our congregation with health problems. Some are receiving treatment at home and some at hospital. Pray too for their families and for the doctors and nurses caring for them—for healing and joy in the midst of suffering and pain.

TUESDAY: Give thanks for God’s blessings on our church in the past. Give thanks for material blessing and the people who have passed through and who have been an encouragement to us. Ask God, as we look to the future, to show us how best to utilise the resources in our care and guide us in the giving, investing and spending of our money.

WEDNESDAY: Remember police, firemen, ambulance personnel and others who are called regularly to deal with potentially violent and dangerous situations. Pray for them to be able to calm and diffuse these situations and ask God to show the most appropriate courses of action to take

THURSDAY: Continue to pray for the work of Release International who serve persecuted Christians in 30 countries. Their ministry involves:
1. Showing God’s compassion: Providing for the needs of the families of martyrs and prisoners
2. Serving God’s church—enabling them to survive persecution
3. Sharing God’s love: Helping the persecuted church from those who oppose the Gospel
4. Spreading God’s word by supplying Bibles and other literature
5. Speaking as God’s advocates: Being the voice of the martyrs and the oppressed

FRIDAY: “Thanking God is both a privilege and a duty. Never forget it.” Thank God for the freedom we have to worship openly, to speak to others about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. At this harvest time pray that the God of harvest will use you in the vineyard He has placed you.

SATURDAY: Pray for the young people around the world who won’t have a harvest to look forward to. Pray that finances from Christian organisations, charitable trusts, churches and other sources will be used wisely as God directs.

SUNDAY: Remember and pray for those known to you who are at the end of their personal resources and earnestly asking for a miracle of healing or some other answer to prayer. Pray that God will demonstrate His power and grace in their situations, and for ourselves, remember to look to Christ for our answers.

This morning we celebrate communion around the Lord’s Table and welcome all who love the Lord Jesus Christ. As is our custom, there will be a retiring offering for the Benevolent Fund.

The Upper North Belfast Community Empowerment Partnership is holding a health information day on Wednesday 5th October in the Spectrum Centre. There is a session for older people from 10.30-12.30pm, and for young people from 6-8.30pm. For more information please contact Richard

Midweek Bible study is starting up again this Thursday, 6th Oct. at 7.30pm.

Harvest Thanksgiving is Sunday 9th October. After the 11am service, there will be a bread and cheese lunch in the hall. Offering will go towards world aid. Rev. Ken Doherty will lead the evening service at 6.30pm.

Praise group practice for the service is on Wednesday 5th October at 7pm

There is a meeting Saturday 8th October at 2pm to decorate the church. Donations of flowers would be greatly appreciated.

Meeting sfor the Outreach volunteers begin on Monday 13th June at 7.30. It is important that as many people as possible attend the first meeting as we will be looking at the programme and sorting out roles. Please talk to Barbara if you can help in any way.

Invasion North

There will be a get together for all those involved in hostin the American teams coming over in the summer. This will be held on Saturday 18th June from 11.00 to 2.00 pm in Ballysillan Presbyterian. The programme includes introduction, prayer, worship, team building and child protection.

During the summer we will have a team of 12 to 15 American visitors staying with us. They will be doing a street clean-up in the local area, some practical work in the church, leading a Fun Day and helping with our week of Outreach to the children and young people of the area.
The Outreach week will run as it usually does, with the team gathering for prayer and bible study, lunch, the afternoon session for 5-10 year olds, dinner, then the evening session for 10-14 year olds. If you usually help in any way this is even more necessary. Please let Barbara or Jack know if you are willing to help with the Outreach or with helping cook food for the team.

PWA Trip
The ladies of the PWA and friends enjoyed a levely trip yesterday. Thanks to all who helped organise this, especially to Pat Kennedy, incoming President.

Congratulations to Lorraine and Elizabeth Kidd who received their 20 years long Service Award in Guiding. The High Sheriff of Belfast, Councillor David Brown, presented them with this at the City Hall. Well done and may they continue to serve.

The Moderator will give an update on the Tsunami disaster this Thursday evening in Church House. We will be attending this as part of our Mid-week worship and will need to leave the church around 6.45. There are lifts available for everyone. Please attend so your prayers etc can continue to be focussed.

On Saturday 28th of May some volunteer labour is needed to remove a damaged wall at the manse and replace it with a wooden fence. More details later.

The voting list for a new congregational committee is up on display to fulfill the requirements under then Presbyterian code. Voting will take places next week. Please consider your decisions prayerfully.

Church reports avaliable for Elders & Committee members for distribution.

There will be a Golfing Day out on June 9th during the daytime. The cost is £24. Come even if you do not know how to play! More details later.

The bus leaves the church at 10 am sharp. We got to Larne and spend a short time there for shopping, then on to Raloo Presbyterian Church for lunch.
After lunch we go to Ballycastle and spend some time there, then to Articlave Presbyterian Church for High Tea.

After tea we head home and hope to be back at Crumlin Road at approximately 8 pm.

Sunday School Trip

Between 60 and 70 Children, parents and helpers joined together yesterday to go to the Presbyterian Fun Day at the Folk and Transport Museum. The weather was lovely and a good time was had by all. Thanks to all who support the Sunday School, without your help we would not be able to do as much.

Global Day of Prayer

This Sunday 15th May, Pentecost Sunday, an historic and unprecedented prayer event is being held between 3.00 pm and 5.30 pm in the grounds of the Stormont Estate in Belfast, as part of the first Global Day of Prayer. The event will include praise and prayers for our nation and for the world. This initiative, originating in South Africa, has grown rapidly over three years to the point where on a Sunday in May in 2004 an estimated 22 million people gathered n over 50 African nations for a simultaneous act of prayer for their nations and their continent. This year it is hoped to encompass the globe. The event is being organised in Ireland by Transformations Ireland, a group of church leaders froma variety of traditions who have been prayeing and working together to promote prayer and unity in the Church in this island.

During the launch of Church, Community and Change, the congregation were asked how we felt about engaging with the community. Many of the responses were positive but a there were a number of issues raised. Over the next 7 weeks those issues will be addressed at workshops on Thursday evening, 7.30 pm in the downstairs hall. As many people as possible are invited to come along to listen to the issues and discuss them.This week the meeting will take the form of a Bible study and discussion. If anyone needs a lift please speak to the minister or any of the elders.
This week's topic: But Why? which will examine motivations.

If you know of any member of the congregation who is admitted to hospital please contact the Minister (90715256) or any of the elders. Many people rely on the hospital to notify ministers but this does not always happen and we do not want anyone to be overlooked. Hospital visitation always takes priority and it would be helpful to be informed as soon as possible of those being admitted.

Special Prayer request:
Please pray for a number of children whose parents have recently separated. Pray that these children will not suffer because of the break odwn in the family and pray for the healing of relationships.

Songs of Praise to highlight Christian efforts to 'Make Poverty
History'

A Tanzanian mother who for decades walked for 10 hours each night to
fetch water for her family, will feature on this week's BBC Songs of Praise
programme (April 17th, 17.00, BBC 1).

Joyce Mbwilo, from Uhambingeto village, tells Songs of Praise
presenter Sally Magnusson, who last month travelled out to meet her, just
what life is like for the 1.2 billion people who lack access to clean water.
She tells Sally how she used to wake up at midnight, walk 14km, returning at
10am the following morning.

Sally Magnusson also visits Gleneagles, Scotland, the venue for the
July meeting of the G8 group of richest nations, as well as talking to local
church volunteers from Tearfund in Auchterarder, near to Gleneagles, who are
praying and campaigning for G8 leaders to make decisions to help 'make
poverty history'. The programme features Aberdeen University Chapel Choir
and singer Eddie Reader.

Sally Magnusson says of her encounter with Joyce: "It was a
privilege to meet Joyce and her family. It was an occasion I will remember
for a long time. She has one of those faces which lights up and radiates
such warmth."

Sally Magnusson continues: "But Joyce did not pull any punches in
our conversation. Her life is extraordinarily hard, and the future she
dreams of for her children depends squarely on us. I went away conscious of
how much there is to be done, but also of how even quite small practical
gestures of support in this country can make a difference to the lives of people like Joyce.

David Strachan, Songs of Praise producer says: "We hope the
programme will show the real change that has been achieved in one village in
Tanzania as a result of partnership between Tearfund and local churches, and
also as a result of debt cancellation.

"The programme also looks at the commitment of Christians in the UK
to the Make Poverty History campaign through the work of the local
congregation and in the passionate singing of the community which gathered
for the recording of Songs of Praise."

The launch of the programme is set for Sunday 20th March, as part of the morning service.

Church, Community and Change will raise some of the implications of engaging with the local community and give our congregation an opportunity to think about and express their feelings about getting more involved with the community.

Depending on the response, our church will either begin to listen to the community and identify needs or begin to address some of the issues raised.

Church, Community and Change

The launch of the programme has been set for Sunday 20th March, as part of the morning service. Church, Community and Change will raise some of the implications of engaging with the local community and give our people an opportunity to think about and express their feelings about getting more involved with the community. Depending on how the congregation respon to this, our church will either begin to listen to the community and identify needs or begin to address some of the issues raised.

Child Protection:
PCI has launched new Child Protection Guidelines, called 'Gaking Care' for all congregations - all leaders will have access to a set of these. Alongside this we are leased to announce that Kathryn Wonnacott has agreed to be the Designated Officer for our congregation. This means that Kathryn is a contact person for anyone who has concerns about a child who attends any organisation. All leaders are now required to undergo a PECS check and forms will be given out soon.

MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY
By the time Gordon Brown met his counterparts from the G7 countries, over 20,000 of people had emailed to ask him to lay the foundations for an historic deal on trade, debt and aid.

Key Outcomes
On Debt: They agreed that big institutions like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund should be ready to write off up to 100% of the poorest countries; debts. We must ensure any deal covers all the poorest countries and doesn't raid aid budgets or come with harmful strings attached.
On Aid: The Finance ministers did, for the first time, agree that aid will need to be massively increased and made more effective. However they made no definite commitments to provide the cash needed to eradicate poverty.
On Trade: Finance ministers said they want progress in the current world trade talkes to help poverty reduction and benefit developing countries. Yet the UK and other G7 countries are pushing poor countries to open up their markets to unfair trade. Trade justice means allowing poor countreis to decide the trade policies which will help them end poverty and protect the environment.
Please continue to pray and do what you can to keep the pressure up.

The co-ordinating group met again on Wednesday evening to plan the launch of the programme, set for Sunday 20^th March, as part of the morning service.

Church, Community and Change will raise some of the implications of engaging with the local community and give our people an opportunity to think about and express their feelings about getting more involved with the community.

The co-ordinating Committee consists of people that are representative of various aspects of the life of the church.

Prayer Diary for this week:

Monday: Please pray for the Church, Community and Change co-ordinating group as they plan to launch this programme in the congregation. Pray everyone connected to the church will feel led by God to be involved in looking at how our church can be effective in the surrounding community.

Tuesday: Please remember the work of the Child Evangelism Fellowship. They have undertaken the task of delivering copies of ‘The Wonder book’ through every door in the Province. Pray God will bless this initiative and CEF’s wider work.

Wednesday: Remember Rachel and all the situations she finds herself in. Pray for wisdom and discernment in dealing with new colleagues, friends and when interacting with her neighbours. Continue to pray for her safety and for God’s guidance in all she does.

Thursday: Many members of our congregation have been bereaved recently. Please pray for God’s presence as they go through the grieving process and that they will experience his comfort. Pray especially for those who have lost their life partner, that they may feel an awareness of God’s plan for their lives at the most difficult time.

Friday: Please pray for those in our congregation who are young in faith. Pray for the situations they find themselves in, especially at school. Please pray that we, as a congregation may show love and respect to them and give them encouragement.

Saturday: Give thanks for all those involved in the MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY campaign, which brings together 200 charities, campaigns, trade unions, faith groups and celebrities who believe that 2005 offers an unprecedented opportunity for global change. Unfair trade rules mean drug prices are set too high for poor communities to afford them. Debt repayments mean poor countries can’t build up their health systems. Pray that governments will listen and that debts will be wiped out.

Sunday: Please pray for our province at this time of great uncertainty and ask that God will grant wisdom to those in positions of leadership. Pray that people will be more careful in what they say, as rash words cannot be recalled.

Are you missing out?

Colossions 3:6 says: "Let the word of christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God."
Our mid-week, on Thursday at 7.30, is a chance to gather for an informal time of prayer and Bible study. If you need a lift just ask Jack, or any of the elders, or anyone you feel would pick you up. Come along and try it!

Burns Night Supper
Thanks to all those responsible for organising food and entertainment for last night's event. Good food, good company and a bit of fun was enjoyed by all. Details of our St. Patrick's dinner will appear here in a few weeks time so keep watching.

The purpose of the meeting was to allow the group to find out more about the process the church will be going through and to look at the practical things that need to be done. World Development Appeal
This is the official way for our congregation to contribute to Tearfund and Christian Aid - the WDA is split 50-50. This means the Christian Aid envelopes in May will NOT be given out to the congregation. Please make your donation in the WDA envlopes.

PC Overseas Board Teams 2005

The Board has had requests for 4 teams to Eastern Europe this summer.
Team members must be 18+ - Cost £500 - Closing Date 15th December.

Make a difference in the life of even one person in Eastern Europe
See for yourself how God is working in another country
Use your holidays to benefit others (teams go for approx. 2 weeks)

You will be involved in leading Bible Studies, teaching English and leading otehr activities for children and young people.

Team 1 - Szilagycseh, Romania - 1 to 19 July

To run a Bible Club with crafts and games in Week 1 for children, in Week 2 for teenagers from the local town.

Team 2 - Algyogy, Romania - 3 to 17 August

Take part in International Youth Camp that attracts over 200 each year & English language teaching acmp - both organised by our missionaries.

Team 3 - Ozd, Romania - 16 July to 3 August

Practical work on a Christian run rehabilitation centre, farm and Conference centre. Also in houses were staff/volunteers live.

Team 4 - Balazser, Transcarpathia, Ukraine - 16 to 28 July

English Language teaching camp for young people. A chance to share your faith through drama, music and discussion groups.

We have been unable to arrange a date for the coordinating group to meet the facilitator before Christmas. The start of the programme has been delayed to January, which maybe more appropriate for something new!
